Plains Biome Guide: Fulings, Farming, and Yagluth in Valheim
The Plains biome in Valheim 1.0 — Fuling villages, lox herds, barley and flax farming, deathsquitos, tar pits, and Yagluth's altar.
The Plains look almost friendly — rolling golden grass under the branches of Yggdrasil — and that is the trap. It’s the first biome where the environment is safe and the creatures are horrifying.
What lives in the Plains?
Fulings, lox, deathsquitos, and growths at the tar pits. Fulings are the biome’s civilization — goblin camps with shamans, berserkers, and a thousand spears — and the totems they worship are the boss keys. Lox are the domesticated megafauna, deathsquitos are the one-hit horror insects, and tar pits bubble up the black building material. The bestiary has the weakness table; the short version is: Fuling shamans first, always.
What can you gather in the Plains?
Barley and flax for farming, black metal scrap for gear, and tar for building. Barley and flax only grow on Plains soil — that makes the biome the game’s breadbasket and the reason you build farms here. Fuling drops and tar pits yield tar for darkwood building pieces. The food tier list covers the lox-meat meals that carry the tier.
What dungeons and structures are here?
Fuling villages and camps — the boss keys are inside them. Totems for Yagluth’s summon come from village bonfires and the bigger outposts; pull packs apart at range before you commit. The biome’s altar sits in Fuling territory, and lox herds roam free — taming them is covered in the taming guide.

When do you leave the Plains?
After Yagluth falls — the last of the original five bosses. His win opens the Mistlands tier and Eitr magic. The boss order guide shows where the Plains sits on the full eight-boss road, and the armor tier list covers the padded gear you’ll want before stepping in.
