Deep North Creatures: Valheim 1.0's Full New Bestiary
All new Deep North creatures in Valheim 1.0 — Barka, Elaking, Gammeltroll, Hexen, Writhan, the Shapeless cluster, Fallen Warriors, Moose, and Seals.
1.0’s Deep North doesn’t just add a biome — it adds a whole food chain. The patch notes count more than ten new creatures, and they’re split cleanly into “things that hunt you” and “things you can tame.”
What new hostile creatures are in the Deep North?
The hostile roster is the biome’s identity — nine-ish named threats plus the summonable Fallen Warriors:
- Barka — the biome’s namesake beast; the big herbivore-creature of the Deep North wood line.
- Elaking — the moose’s hostile counterpart: the giant, territorial elder moose.
- The Eyeless One — a stalking horror variant that hunts by sound and blood, not sight.
- Fallen Warriors — summonable undead Valkyrie-tier fighters, called at Memorial Places with three Memorial Coal; they drop the Frostfire and Thunderblood Essences that upgrade the Nord weapon lines.
- Gammeltroll — the Deep North’s elder troll variant; bigger, icier, hits harder.
- Hexen — the biome’s witches; spellcasters with the region’s frost-and-shadow kit.
- Krigen — the Deep North’s soldier-class hostile.
- The Pulp cluster — Hexahedric Pulp, Shapeless Pulp, Tiny Pulp: the amorphous horrors that fit the biome’s “growing things in the dark” theme.
- Writhan — the Deep North’s signature abomination.

What new tameable creatures are there?
Moose, Moose Calves, Seals, and Baby Seals. Moose are the flagship — tameable on Lingonberries, rideable with the crafted Moose Saddle (see the taming guide). Seals are the coastal wild life; Baby Seals are the cutest mechanic in 1.0 and drop Seal Pelt for the saddle. None of these are combat pets — the Deep North’s combat roster is on the hostile side.
Where do you find these creatures?
Spread across the biome’s surface and dungeons. The surface herds and hunters roam the forests and frozen coasts; the deeper horrors live in the Winding Tunnels and Mörkhalla — the Deep North’s dungeons — and the Fallen Warriors wait at Memorial Places for your coal. Everything feeds the same loop: hunt, gather, forge, repeat on the way to Kall Fimbulbringer.

Which new creature should you prioritize?
Fallen Warriors — they gate the weapon upgrade tree. Their essences are the only way to convert a Nord weapon into Frostfire or Thunderblood, so Memorial Coal farming is a real economy. The bestiary covers the biome’s weakness table in full, and the Deep North guide has the walkthrough.
