Valheim Comfort Guide: Rested Bonus, Furniture, and Max Comfort

The rested buff is the single most important buff in Valheim — it multiplies health and stamina regen — and comfort level decides how long it lasts. It’s the reason your base is more than a box: furniture is literally a buff.

How does comfort work?

Each unique furniture type inside your shelter adds +1 comfort, up to the cap. Sit or rest inside a roofed, enclosed space with a lit fire and your rested timer starts — the comfort level extends how long the buff persists after you leave. The catch: duplicates don’t stack. Two chairs don’t give +2 — one chair, one table, one banner, one rug each add their point.

What raises comfort?

Furniture, fires, and the big-ticket items. The comfort ladder roughly runs:

  • Campfire / hearth — the fire itself is the floor of the system.
  • Chair, table, bed, bench — the +1 workhorses.
  • Banner, rug, brazier, chest — decorative but they count.
  • Hot tub, throne, dragon bed — the late-game pieces that push comfort into the teens.

The building guide covers the structural side; comfort is what makes the interior matter.

How much rested time do you get?

The base buff is about 8 minutes; max comfort pushes it past 25. Every comfort point adds to the rested duration when you sleep or sit in the shelter — so the more complete your hall, the longer the regen bonus lasts into the field. It’s the difference between a fighting chance and a death spiral on boss runs — see the boss order for why rested matters on the ladder.

Where does comfort matter most?

Everywhere you fight — it’s the invisible prep step. Rested buff is why boss kills get easier after a base visit; it’s also why Deep North expeditions get scary when you’re far from your hall. Pair it with the food and mead prep in the food tier list and the gear check in the armor tier list for the full pre-fight stack.
